"I joined at the ripe age of 30 because it was on my bucket list to get a deployment in as my father. He served 18 years in the Army Special Forces, and two tours of Vietnam. So I was the old guy they called pops, but I did laps around the youngsters."
In honor of upcoming Veterans Day, we would like to give a special thank you to Joseph Englund.
Joseph joined the service at the age of thirty. This is not the your average age to join, most men and women serve not too far off of High school. However for Joseph, it was something that he felt he had to do and always pulled at his heart. His father had served 18 years in the Army Special Forces and had two tours of Vietnam under his belt. He had always respected what his father had done and told himself that one day would serve his country too. As life would have it it delayed his deployment until March 9, 2010 and he earned his nickname as Pops.
March 9, 2010, where his first duty station was Fort Carson Colorado, Colorado Springs, CO 42nd MP Brigade, 759th MP Battalion, 127th MP Company. He was then deployed to Afghanistan for two Campaigns Jalalabad doing patrols through the neighboring towns. He next moved to the mountains of Afghanistan and Pakistan and patrolled the area there, then the USFORA PSD Private Security Detachment for General Allen, General McMaster, CSM Hill.
His second and final duty station was Katterbach, Germany where he conducted policing duties on post and off post working with the German Polizei 18th MP Brigade, 709th MP Battalion, 527th MP Company
He served a total of 5 years and separated with an Honorable Discharge on March 8, 2015.
